Q: Does the outdoor unit need to be serviced? And if so, how often?
A: The outdoor unit needs to be cleaned at least once a year to make sure the air circulation through the unit is not blocked. Poor air circulation can affect cooling and heating efficiency, compressor life, and energy consumption. Contact your installing dealer/contractor for service recommendations.
Q: Why does ice form on exposed copper pipes and brass valves of the outdoor unit during cooling?
A: Each Panasonic residential indoor unit comes with a wireless controller when new. All controllers are preset at the factory on one communication channel in each product family. Although not recommended, it is possible to mount a wireless controller in close proximity to two indoor units to operate as group.
Q: Why is the indoor unit so noisy?
A: The blower wheel may be dirty and out of balance. The indoor coil may be dirty and restricting air flow through the coil. Additionally, the wall surface where the indoor unit is mounted could be uneven and causing the unit to vibrate.
Q. Can I operate more than one indoor unit from a single wireless controller?
A: Each Panasonic residential indoor unit comes with a wireless controller when new. All controllers are preset at the factory on one communication channel in each product family. Although not recommended, it is possible to mount a wireless controller in close proximity to two indoor units to operate as group.
Q. My Panasonic controller has something labeled “Dry” in the mode selection. What is that?
A: Dry mode provides a gentle mode of cooling that also provides increased efficiency for dehumidification. Set the temperature as you normally would to be comfortable in cooling. Dry mode works best when in a closed up room.
Q. What does the “Powerful” button on my Panasonic controller do?
A. Powerful mode increases the compressor speed and indoor unit fan speed to provide maximum cooling (or Heating) for 20 minute duration. Powerful mode self cancels at the end of 20 minutes or by reaching cooling set point. Other ways Powerful are cancelled are: pressing the Quiet button, pressing the On/Off button, Timer activation occurs, and by pressing the Powerful button again.
Q. My Panasonic unit will not operate and the “Timer” lamp in the indoor unit is pulsing. What is happening and how is this remedied?
A. The self diagnostics built into the Panasonic HVAC system has detected an alarm and ceased operation as a protective function. Please call your installing contractor to investigate the cause of alarm and make necessary adjustments or repairs.
Q: Is there a way to check the wireless remote controller to make sure it is working?
A: Turn the controller on and locate the infrared emitter at the end of the controller. With a cell phone camera or digital camera, look through the view finder or screen at the Infrared emitter. Push on buttons of the controller. The emitter will light at each touch of a button. Human eyes cannot detect infrared light. If the emitter does not light, replace the controller batteries and push the reset button.
Q: Where is room temperature sensed on my system with a wireless controller?
A: On some Panasonic models, room temperature is measured at the end of the wireless remote controller. These models will also have a button on the controller labeled “Sensor”. This means they can also have temperature sensing shifted from the controller to a sensor at the air handler unit. Wireless controllers without the “Sensor” button, measure temperature from a sensor at the air handler unit.
Q: My Panasonic indoor unit has a blinking Operation or blinking Timer lamp, what does that mean?
A: This means the Panasonic unit has generated a fault alarm and will not function until the fault is repaired. The blinking lamp does not indicate a specific fault alarm code, but just a general fault. Please contact your dealer for further diagnostics and repairs.
Q: I noticed a build up of ice on the outdoor unit during winter heating. What causes that and is it harming my system?
A: Ice build up is seen from time to time on the outdoor unit of a Heat Pump system. Ice build up is a normal occurrence with enough run time in heating and winter weather conditions. The system will automatically defrost itself for a very short period of time, melting the accumulation of ice. Normal heating will automatically restart at the termination of the defrost cycle.
Q: I noticed my heat pump system will stop from blowing warm air from time to time during the winter. It also will blink a light. It always will begin to heat again after this, is there a problem?
A: During heating operation, ice may form on the outdoor unit with enough run time and cold conditions outside. This is a normal occurrence. The system is designed to automatically defrost itself. When this occurs, the indoor fan will stop, the flap will close, and a lamp will blink. The indoor unit will not circulate air because it will be cold. Once defrost is terminated, normal heat operation will begin again automatically.
Q: I have an ECOi system. It is not working and the controller on the wall reads E04. What is wrong?
A: There is a communication problem. One or more indoor units cannot communicate to the outdoor unit. It could be simply the power has been turned off at the outdoor unit for routine service. Please contact your service provider for details.
Q: I am a service provider new to an ECOi system. My company did not install this system originally. How do I operate the system in Test Mode to check operation?
A: Test run operation is possible when there is a wall controller, CZ-RTC2, installed. Press and hold down the “Wrench” key for 4-5 seconds. Select the mode of Test operation, either Heating or Cooling. This will bring on that indoor unit to it’s rated BTU/h output with the inverter compressor and electronic expansion valve set. This will provide a steady operation to measure Delta T, amp draw, and other items.
Q: I am an enduser who just purchased and had installed a Panasonic Residential system. Where can I obtain Operation and Service Manuals?

Q: I am a dealer installing a Panasonic System, model number 36PET1U6. Can I use low voltage thermostat wire for outdoor to indoor communications?
A: This product family uses a digital signal to communicate between the outdoor and indoor units. The cable must be an AWG 18/2 with a foil shield and a ground. The foil casing and ground help reduce potential interference that may cause the system not to function. The foil and ground must be connected to a clean earth ground at the outdoor unit. It is not necessary to ground the foil and ground at the indoor unit. If a wired controller is used, use the same type of AWG 18/2 shielded cable for those connections. Ground the foil and ground wire at a clean earth ground of the indoor unit.
Q: Can I operate the Dual system Heat Pump (CU-2E18NBU) with one indoor unit in heat and the other in cooling?
A: Yes, you can. One unit will operate the chosen mode until temperature set point is reached and then the other unit will operate in it’s chosen mode. There may some short time delays between each mode to permit the refrigerant pressure to equalize before a change in operation.
Q: The system 5 Multi Heat Pump literature states from 2-5 indoor may be used. Can I start off with just two indoor units and add more later?
A: Yes, more indoor units can be added anytime. Be sure to size the future capacity expansion within the factory provided combination chart. Also consider the line set lengths and additional refrigerant needs.
